Part of that is due to the fact that I got things in early, and part due to keeping ahead of the weeds this year and making more frequent visits to the garden.<\/p>\n<p>The tomatoes \u2013 having <a title=\"Once again, weather means more when you have a garden\u2026\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northbyram.org\/highlands\/newsblog\/?p=990\" target=\"_blank\">survived the killing freeze<\/a> that took a toll on others in the garden \u2013 are approaching two-feet in height and contain dozens of blooms. &#8216;Maters by the Fourth of July?!?! In fact I brought home the first small harvest of radishes today, and my Mom&#8217;s trip to visit from Minnesota was deemed complete&#8230;she got her first fresh radish sandwich of the year!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m happy because the potato salad for tomorrow&#8217;s Memorial Day block picnic will have some tasty radish garnish! It&#8217;s starting to &#8216;taste like summer&#8217; despite the cool, damp &amp; dreary weather.
