{"id":543,"date":"2012-07-13T17:50:28","date_gmt":"2012-07-13T21:50:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.northbyram.org\/highlands\/newsblog\/?p=543"},"modified":"2013-07-17T15:52:10","modified_gmt":"2013-07-17T19:52:10","slug":"the-perks-of-an-outdoor-summer-office","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.northbyram.org\/highlands\/newsblog\/?p=543","title":{"rendered":"The Perks of an Outdoor Summer Office"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4 style=\"text-align: left;\">As I have <a title=\"Scenes from the backyard\" href=\"http:\/\/www.northbyram.org\/highlands\/newsblog\/?p=411\" target=\"_blank\">posted previously<\/a>, I enjoy an almost virtual &#8220;National Geographic Outdoor Explorer&#8221; atmosphere in my back yard.<\/h4>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Deer, turkey, bear on occasion, and an incredible variety of birds inhabit my neighborhood. When the weather cooperates \u2013 from early spring to late fall \u2013 I enjoy taking my laptop, cell phone, and a cup of coffee or tall glass of ice tea (sweet, thank you) out onto the back deck to work beneath the umbrella of my patio table.\u00a0 Sometimes it is tough to try and work past these distractions. Like yesterday, when the air was filled with the soft buzzzzzzzzzzzzz of ruby-throated hummingbirds chasing about the flowering <a title=\"Lantana\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Lantana\" target=\"_blank\">Lantana plants<\/a> on my deck and visiting my hummingbird feeder. Hmmm. Maybe I can use my <a title=\"Canon PowerShot SX150 IS\" href=\"http:\/\/usa.canon.com\/cusa\/consumer\/products\/cameras\/digital_cameras\/powershot_sx150_is\" target=\"_blank\">simple little digital camera<\/a> in video mode and catch something interesting. So after an hour and a half of setting the camera up, videoing an empty feeder, capturing a bird, editing what I captured and saving the file for the web, I ended up with about 14 seconds of pretty cool video. I think it was worth it!
