We’ve hit ‘peak-garden’ this week, with the zucchini & yellow squash plants now beginning to fade, beets and kohlrabi rows opening up as they are harvested, and green beans maxed out in their production. Time to start preparing the second wave of planting for fall crops of beets, carrots, kohlrabi and additional green beans.
Here’s a look at what I’ve been doing to enjoy the fruits of the garden, both immediately and for storage over the coming months. The major canning, preserving & freezing is only just starting!

Salad days of summer! First tomato from Plot #63, Roseville Community Garden, July 23, 2015. There will be many, many more tomatoes – big and small – in the coming weeks!

Yum! Yellow summer squash sauteed with butter and garlic, with wilted Swiss chard, over penne pasta. This is what summer gardening is all about!
